Industrial equipment: case studies

Vac-Blast system in a rotary cutter

OptiFluides simulates rotary cutters with suction-blow technology for the textile industry.

Context

In the non-woven textile industry, production line speed is a key parameter for ensuring profitability. However, by increasing the speed of rotary cutters, it becomes difficult to control product retention and the evacuation of cutting waste by suction-blowing.

Objective

The aim of the project is to validate the operation of a new design of rotating cutters, enabling an increase in rotation speed and therefore in production. However, it must be ensured that this new design does not impair the rotary cutters’ ability to evacuate cutting waste.

Simulation and results

We model the suction and blowing process of the rotating cutters to ensure sufficient product holding force and reduced waste evacuation time.

Given the very high rotational speed and numerous transient regimes, the flows we simulate are compressible and highly unsteady.
